25 Aug 2011 – A HUGE fire which engulfed a 150 year old chapel and is still remembered by many in Caernarfon today – hit the headlines in June 1976.

Not sure of location but see photo below, little space on South Penrallt, perhaps suitable for a plaque in memory of the 'Old Gelder'.

REMEMBER 19 JUNE 1843 THIS DAY IN HISTORY: MILITANT PEOPLES REBECCA RULES - THE SACKING OF CARMARTHEN WORK HOUSE - REMEMBERED 19 JUNE 2011 - WHY NOT HENCE ANNUALLY - WELSH RADICAL RED REPUBLICANS TO COMMEMORATE - Memo That In Your Red Republican Diary.

The attack on Carmarthen Workhouse took place in what was to be a very militant period of Rebeccite activity during the summer of 1843, not least in the parish of Newchurch north of the Town. Newchurch was an 'Hot Bed' of militant Rebeccite activity and on the 14 June 1843 when Police were sent there to arrest local leaders of the Rebecca Resistence they were attacked and guns taken from them and so it was said, thrown into the river. Five days later it would be the Newchurch Rebecca Rebels who would lead the attack on the work house with support of the poor of the town and local fishermen, hence no doubt the Conch Shell being used as the call to action that day - What an event to commemorate.
